Feature and Follow Friday #175

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers -- but you have to know -- the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools -- keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to Wordpress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don't have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

How To Become a Featured Blog?

We pick our featured blogs randomly each week from the blogs who participated the week before.

Please be sure to feature your e-mail address clearly on your blog. Either on the main blog, on a Contact page, or on an About Me page. If I can't find your email easily, I will choose a different blog to feature.

Our Feature - Rainy Dayz Reviewz

1. When did you start blogging?

I'm actually really new at blogging itself. I started in September. Before that I just kept up on Goodreads for over 2 years now.

2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?

Having an outlet for my love of books. My family isn't very interested in hearing me either gush about my favorite books or rant about something I don't like in a book.

3. What type of books do you mainly blog about?

Mostly Paranormal Romance but I've been trying to broaden my horizons and try other genres lately.

4. What are your favorite books?

It's really hard for me to pick just one book. My all time favorite series is The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson.

5. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?

I get a huge thrill whenever someone responds to one of my posts. It's great when they say my post made them decide to try a book.

Q: Are there any book to movie adaptations where you think the movie is better than the book?

Before I get to this week's question, I have to share one of the coolest things ever to happen to me. Last weekend, we were in Miami. I went down to the hotel gym Saturday morning to exercise. When I stepped off the elevator on the floor where the gym is located, there were security people everywhere. About 10-15 people I think. They wanded me with a portable metal/weapons detector, thanked me, and let me go through. So I went around the corner and walked into the gym.

There were more security people just outside the gym, but in the gym itself, there were only four people. Three people were running on the treadmill. And one person was about two feet to my left. He was either putting weights away or just finishing up doing push-ups, I couldn't tell. I look over and it is...President Obama!

Can you believe that?! Two feet away from me! Sadly, I didn't say anything to him. Since the other exercisers were ignoring him, I got this vibe that it wouldn't be appropriate to speak to him. He left a few minutes later (as I continued to stare at him open mouthed and slowly back my way over to the elliptical). He did smile at me though. That was something at least. So that's my celebrity encounter of the week!

All right, onto the question.

I love the Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea movies. Anne of Avonlea in particular I think was superior to the book (really it's a combination of Anne of Avonlea, Anne of the Island, and Anne of Windy Poplars.

I also thought the 1993/1994 movies The Secret Garden and A Little Princess exceeded their respective books. To Kill a Mockingbird is an equally wonderful book and movie. I also think Mary Poppins is better than P.L. Travers' books. Hmm...what others? I'll have to think more.

Now for the Follow Fun!

With GFC going the way of the dodo bird for many bloggers, there is no better time to start following blogs via RSS feed. If you use a reader, it would be great if you followed my RSS directly.

  2. What a cool experience! (I wouldn't have been able to say anything either :)

I don't watch that many movies *hangs head* but those that I do just can't top my imagination...some come close though!

  3. OMG! You came that close to President Obama. How awesome.
The closest I've ever come to a celebrity was David Hasselhoff at the beach many many years ago when he was filming Baywatch.
As for this weeks question, I haven't actually seen the Annie movies. Yeah, I know - terrible.

  4. I went to one of the President's town hall meetings and pushed myself to the front to shake his hand. I can't imagine going to work out and seeing President Obama, I don't think I could have gotten on the elliptical straight -- that is freaking awesome!

    Happy Friday!

  5. Holy crap! I got to see President Bush once.. well kind of. I was on base one time when he came to the Air Force Academy and they let us line up by the runway and wave at his limo when he went by. I could kind of see him through the window. I did get pictures. It's probably better you didn't talk to the President. I mean .. the man just wants to work out! LOL!

  8. Oh God, I wouldn't have been able to speak and then afterwards I would've kicked myself for missing the chance to change the world by telling Obama all my brilliant ideas for policies and laws! xD I haven't read Mary Poppins, just because I love the movie so much! Thanks for hosting, hope you have a good weekend!

  10. Because I have never read those books I can't really say if the movie was as good as the book. I just know that most are not. :( I always continue to hope for good book to movie shows. :)

  14. Wow how exciting, and now you can say that the President definitely cares about his fitness hehe. Man though I would hate to have that many people all around me when I'm working out.

  15. That's cool that you saw the President. Fun story to tell. I totally forgot about Anne! I loved the movies. My mom got me the book at one point and I started to read it, but got kind of bored, so I'm with you there. :D I can see that it would be true on the others you mention, too, though I haven't read most of those books. You know, I just read an article about Mary Poppins and what a stickler the author was when Walt Disney was trying to turn it into a film. She didn't want it to be a fun, family musical. Also, she was fine with Julie Andrews, but I guess she had a fit when they cast Dick Van Dyke. Crazy, huh? Anyway, have a great weekend, Alison! :D

  16. I LOVE Anne of Green Gables! I used to watch them over and over and over as a kid. It's great to see that they are still around. :) I haven't seen To kill a Mockingbird yet but it's on my list.

    Have a great weekend, Alison!!

  18. I feel like I always agree with you on these things. I absolutely loved the older movie versions of The Secret Garden, Anne and The Little Princess. I also read the books but the movies felt like they left a longer lasting impression

  21. I read and watched Anne of Green Gables when I was younger and remember enjoying them. Same with the Secret Garden and A Little Princess, I used to adore those. Absolute classics. Also running into Obama is a bit surreal, and totally cool :)

  24. I didn't read any of the Anne of Green Gables books until I was an adult, so it's not really the same. I think I've seen bits of the movies on TV.

  25. I really did like To Kill a Mockingbird as a movie although I thought the book was a little better. It's so cool that you saw the president. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  27. Seeing Obama working out makes for a cool dinner story. I love To Kill a Mockingbird but I can see why you went with the film as Gregory Peck nails Atticus.
