I've been doing Manga Mondays every week since I started my blog 18 months ago. It's always been a personal feature, but now I'm going to try turning it into a meme. There are quite a few people who do Manga Mondays. I don't claim by any means that I owned or created the idea of Manga Mondays - it's an obvious choice given the alliteration. I think a meme would be a good way for everyone to publicize their own Manga Mondays and get a little more publicity.
The linky will be below my post.
No manga review today. I spent my holiday weekend in San Francisco. Love that city! But unfortunately, that has put me behind in my manga reading. So my next review will be delayed until next week.
In the mean time, here's a question:
What was the first manga series you read?
My first manga was Fruits Basket. I had heard it was one of the most iconic manga series, so I thought I'd give it a try. I struggled a bit with it at first - I had trouble telling some of the characters apart and the story line was confusing. But I think that was mainly because I was unfamiliar with the manga style. Once I got used to it, I fell in love with the mythology, the characters, and the romance.

My first manga? That was so long ago! I think it was Cardcaptor Sakura. I loved the anime and later on my friend told me it was based on a manga so she let me borrow the first volumes. I loved them :)
ReplyDeleteIt's your holiday today too? I didn't know that. In Canada we have Family day, so it's a long weekend for us, but we didn't go anywhere this year.
ReplyDeleteThe first manga I read was about 4 years ago when I was 14, before that I didn't even know about mangas, since I used to hate reading so much. My first manga was Bleach, I had finished watching all of the dubbed episodes and all of the subbed ones of the anime, somehow I discovered mangas and somehow found the chapter that is after the episode I watched and after a few chapters I just got addicted to mangas and slowly started discovering more mangas and animes.
I'm an anime lover first and foremost and I think the first one I watched was probably Naruto? I'm slowly getting into manga, just gotta get used to the black and white instead of all the pretty colours.
ReplyDeleteMy first manga was probably Vol 12 of Inuyasha. That was over 10 years ago. If were going to go with anime it would be Sailor Moon which I saw when I was like 5 or 6.
ReplyDeletewow, I'm not sure that I remember my first manga, I think it may have been Love Hina actually, I don't really like Harem anime and manga now (unless it's reverse harem haha), and go out of my way to avoid it, but at the beginning it intrigued me, It wasn't long until I discovered various different genres.
ReplyDeleteMy first manga was Vampire Knight, after watching the whole anime of it. Then it was Fruits Basket!
ReplyDeleteMy first manga ever? God, that was so long ago. I can't even remember the order it was that long ago. I think it's either between Dragonball (I know old school), Ranma 1/2, and Sailor Moon. Back when they first came out, so early 90's. Yeah, long time ago.
ReplyDeleteFruits Basket was my first too, about five years ago, and I have memories of constantly flipping to the back to check the proper order in which to read the panels. Good times!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any manga yet, but I love coming here on Mondays to see what latest volume you've picked up:) You and Rummanah really have me wanting to give them a try!
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't remember my first manga(maybe Kare Kano?)...I started with watching anime and eventually started reading manga.
ReplyDeleteI only watched the anime version of FB, but never read the whole manga (just the last volume:)
I've never tried manga before but I really would like to give it a go. I do quite like anime, so I'm thinking I would love manga just as much. I've heard good things about Fruit Basket too, and also Vampire Knight.
ReplyDeleteWow, I think my first manga ever was either Dragonball Z or Magic Knight Rayearth. I really loved both for different things, DBZ because of the action (and buff men) and MKR because of the beautiful story and art (CLAMP will kill you with beauty each time). There's so many great manga out there, and with such diversity, anyone could find something they'll enjoy. :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't done a MM post in a long time :( just haven't been reading anything but my first ever manga was Ceres Celestial Legend volume. 1(or Ayashi No Ceres) by Yuu Watase. Back in high school my friend's friend had just recently come back from the states and had brought her both volumes 1 and 2 of this manga and both of our eyes went o.o we had never seen anything like it before and the art was so pretty, she lent it to me after she read them first and I loved it, I thought it was funny and I had loved the mythology and all of the characters were really pretty. Reading back to front took some getting used to of course as well as pronouncing the Japanese names and understanding the culture references but that's to be expected I think :).
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure mine was Hana Kimi. It was the only manga that I've ever read start to finish.
ReplyDeleteMy first manga was High School Debut, which is a mostly silly shoujo manga that I couldn't bear to finish. I think I made it through three of them. The first manga I really loved from start to finish was Sand Chronicles. So emotional!
ReplyDeleteGreat question!
ReplyDeleteMy first ever manga was Bleach and it still is! I started with the anime and then decided to read from the original source after episode 25, or so. Once I picked up the manga, I've never once put it down. I fell more in love with it than the anime and got way too unhealthily obsessed, lol.
Since then I've gotten into a lot of manga, the latest being Magico from the Weekly Shonen JUMP. There's just something magical about manga.
I'm a bit behind on my manga reading too. I did pick up an interesting new series that I've heard about. Let's see, my first manga was Death Note. A library recommended it to me and then I went to Emma, which is like night and day. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThanks to you my first manga was Dengeki Daisy. I used to not be able to read manga but after reading that one I am hooked.
ReplyDeleteMy first manga was Prequel story of Prince Zuko. I had heard about the Last Airbender animated series but I wasn't able to watch since my cable provider took out Nick Channel. I was curious on the manga format of the prequel. I don't know if this will be last manga tho. :D
ReplyDeleteMy first manga was Elementalors by Takeshi Okazaki. Unfortunately this beautiful manga is unfinished. :(
